Tigres au repos, 1931

Etching on Japanese pearly paper, signed and justified « épreuve d’artiste » (artist proof) lower left, embossed panther-head stamp lower right
36.50 x 49.50 cm

History:
This print, on Japanese pearly paper, is one of the ten subjects chosen to appear in the album published by Editions Apollo for the Weill Gallery in 1931. From this portfolio were printed one hundred copies numbered from 1 to 100 as well as eleven luxury albums on vintage Japan paper numbered from I to XI. The artist will reserve a few luxury copies on parchment for each of the subjects. Some of these albums were nested in a studded leather box made by Hermès house and decorated with an etching by the artist (using a model of a door hammer carved from his creation), one of which we present in this exhibition.
